I kinda understand where they sing about and i don't know why but they have something special that makes them good.
Maybe childhood memories? :D

I like metal but greatly prefer melodic singing over the guttural vocals. Short bits of it is OK though.

Kamelot and Nightwish are my favorite metal bands. As a classically trained musician who has played with full orchestras, the use of strings, horns, and other orchestral instruments in metal greatly appeals to me. I play piano at a professional level, and am an intermediate electric guitarist.

Wow seriously awesome Jersey, Im adding you to friends list. Im a classically trained percussionist(professional level) . I can play guitar a bit but Im not too good at it. I also love piano. I do like the orchestral and classical feel of Symphonic death Metal but I like the Drive of the guttural vocals a lot . My favorite band in symphonic metal is Fleshgod Apocalypse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T0xOgMC6A0 ...

I like metal, but more the lighter side of it. Black Label Society, some Trivium, All that Remains, BFMV those types. the heaviest stuff I listen to is probably Dethklok, cause that stuff is hilarious.
