I'm bored, so looked up his sentence. In short, it was his 5th/6th DUI. He chose to do one year in county jail, rather than try to comply with probation they were offering. THAT is called 'dedicated alcoholic' ... to give up a year of freedom so you don't have to pee for your probation agent. In detail (in case you're bored too) ;;;;;;;;;;;;;

3:42 pm Def in court w/Atty Thomas Y. Huh. John William Kellis appeared for the State of Wisconsin. Statement as to Negotiated Plea filed - signed/understands. No threats/force. Plea Questionnaire filed - signed/understands. No voting or firearms and deportation advised. Rights/elements/questions gone over. Count 2 - Operating With a BAC - 5th (BAC: .304) (Fel) GUILTY Count 1 - Dismissed COURT is satisfied that the plea is F, I & V made. Sufficient factual basis. Found guilty and convicted. Kellis believes the recommendation is appropriate. Not much of a criminal record outside of OWI's. There was an accident w/o injuries. I don't believe a straight jail sentence is appropriate here. Not asking for a PSI. Huh not asking for a PSI. Feels the State's recommendation is a fair one. Asks the Court to consider a straight jail sentence. We have many indications here that does make Doug an exception. He doesn't have any criminal record other than OWI's. His last OWI convictions are 14, 16 and 19 years ago. Because of his past record, he technically is an alcoholic. He was at his brother's house who suddenly passed away and Doug found him. He went and told his father. It was an unusual event and he drank heavily. He feels horrible about trying to drive home. He's fully cogniscent and takes full responsibility and knows he's going to get punished here. No violations on bond. He was also released from JS testing. His Ins. has paid off the restitution. He plans to participate in OWI Court.
Asks for the 1 year CJ instead of probation and a manditory 6 mos. Hoppens comments. Court comments. SENTENCE: $4,611 + $25 blood draw fee - apply cash bond, the $25 bd fee first, then $50/mo by 9/5/14 AA and DSP DL rev 36 mos w/ IID for 36 mos 365 days CJ - the first 5 days w/o release starting immediately - he may be released on em after that. Participate in and comply with OWI Court No alcohol or controlled substances w/o Rx No bars or taverns e-JS
