***This only affects the SRRP website, not our DOD:S server***
The servers that host the SRRP website will be brought down at 8:00PM EST on 03/22/2014 and will be moved from Scranton, PA to North Carolina.
The server provider is moving all of their customers at this time, and while they have given themselves a 12-hour window to complete the migration, I have very low expectations they will be able to meet this timeframe. About 18 months ago they migrated to a new datacenter which was only a 30 minute drive away and it took them 16 hours, so there is no way they can complete a move which includes an 8 hour drive in only 12 hours. I'd expect the site to be down for 24-36 hours.
I am very disappointed in the way they are handling this migration. I was only notified this afternoon, and 48 hour notice for such a major operation is almost unheard of in this industry. I have become increasingly more concerned about this provider over the past year or so -- the company was sold, tech support had sometimes been a bit slow, and there have been several changes in upper management, and now this sudden move. All of this indicates that the company might be experiencing severe internal issues.
I have decided that even if this migration does go smoothly, it is time to find a new provider. I have increased the frequency of off-site server backups from once a day to once every hour, and will start researching alternate providers as soon as possible.
