uhh you should read on this if the client has a 500 ping and he is masking to just to cheat (sourcemod)
to thinking that the client is normal!!
but in all his ping is still 500 ? just hides it too many high ping's will effect the server & clients

It doesn't affect the server directly. Someone with a high ping will look (to other players) like they're jumping and stuttering across the map, because their computers are not supplying the server with their location and other information as often as is necessary to make their motion smooth.

But it is not cheating or hacking if someone uses ping masking to circumvent our maximum latency of 250 ms. Doing so gives a player no advantage -- it actually is a disadvantage to that player, since it does nothing to change their true latency.

Also, ping is just one of many factors that can influence a player's lag. Someone can have a very low (real, not masked) ping, yet still have bad lag. Conversely, someone can have a moderately high ping (say 150-200 ms) and not experience any severe lag.

If you see someone who is lagging bad (regardless of their ping) and it is affecting gameplay for others because they are jumping and stuttering across the map, you can kick that person. Be sure to note the reason so the player knows why they were kicked.

i am not sure about the hacks but i am aware of a command that you put in to console that lowers your ping. my friend says that it is called a 'ping mask'. i am not sure if this is what he is using but it might be.

Not true, I occasionally get a ping of 5 ms.

Besides, ping masking gives you no absolutely no advantage over any other player. It does nothing to affect your true latency. All ping masking does is make you not be kicked because your ping is too high (> 250 ms continuously for more than a few seconds on our server).

Ping Masking is really what it means.

What do masks do? It covers up how you look. How you act is still the same.

Same here with pings. Your actual "ping" does not change. U just mask it with a 5 ms.

Also the ping maskers will have it locked at 5 ms and it will never fluctuate.
